If you're someone who has an Instagram, you might have already seen the buzz around Louis Vuitton's new India-exclusive shoes for the winter festive collection, featuring a pair in Rani Pink and other designs. The line is curated to celebrate India's rich culture, celebrating the festive and wedding season that takes place during the winter season. Alongside all this, it blends the brand's own aesthetics, some gold tones, and the classic monogram logo.
The Rani Pink is an ode to the Royals of Rajasthan with the Gold shoes introduced to celebrate the joy, luck, and prosperity the festive season brings. In the collection, you'll find Shake block heels, Sparkle slingback pumps, Revival mules, Time Out sneakers, and a cult classic— LV Archlight slingback pumps. The pink ones feature silver branded embellishments while the gold ones have the patent logo embossed in leather. The limited-edition collection is available to purchase now only for the winter season.
Like Louis Vuitton's Pink is an inspiration of the Rajasthani Royals, through the years, several other luxury brands took interest in the heritage of India, basing their collection on our beautiful traditions and aesthetics. Let's take a look at some other India-inspired collections:
Michael Kors India-Exclusive Capsule Collection
Michael Kors is well-known for its super chic bags, and for this festive season they rolled out an India-exclusive Capsule Collection featuring bags, sunglasses, and a watch. The festive collection included the brand's popular Sullivan tote bag, the Jet Set Charm pouchette, and the staple Heather shoulder bag with a custom illustration to give it the Indian touch. The bags were complemented with three accessories in metallic tones, all three bags available in two colours— Brown and White, both looking absolutely classy and festive! The capsule collection is still available to purchase on the Tata Cliq Luxe website.
Christian Dior's India Saddle Bag
Around the 10th Anniversary of John Galliano at Dior, he celebrated it by curating a collection of 12 bags, each taking inspiration from different countries, India being one of them! The India Saddle Bag featured gold embellishments against a gorgeous Rani pink (similar to what LV has used), also involving sequins and embroidered work, with a magnetic side and single zip pocket, a flat shoulder strap and a magnetic front flap closure. There were only 100 pieces available worldwide, with some platforms selling them second-hand.
Chanel's Paris-Bombay Collection
For the pre-autumn/winter 2012-13 collection, Karl Lagerfeld got inspired by India, unveiling the gorgeous line at Chanel's Grand Palais home which was decorated to fit the Indian aesthetic. The range was a beautiful amalagamation of rich shades like fuchsia, snowy white, gold, and silver featured on dresses, coats, saris, and jumpers. The collection was said to be a Paris version of the idea of India, drawing in from Coco Chanel's 50's and 60's vision of the country. Karl Lagerfeld had mentioned that the idea came from several visions like the grand palaces, Maharaja's dress, and India's connection with England (Source: Harper's Bazaar). The collection was chic and fashionable, featuring Salwar Kameez, Churidar, Lehenga, Sherwani, and many other traditional Indian styles.
Alexander McQueen Men's SS 2016 Collection
Going back a few years, Alexander McQueen had launched its SS 16 men's collection with a lookbook, where Harley Hughes (head of menswear design) took inspiration from Indian heritage and culture. With the collection, the McQueen man goes from London to Mumbai, with looks featuring decorated double-breasted jackets, paisley and splashes of colour besides long coats and two-button suits with metallic embellishments. The collection sees sharp cut suits from the 60's with ornate embroidery inspired from India, with the palattes involving a soft yellow, navies, dusky red, and cool browns featured with thick embroidery, animal prints, and jewellery that matches the aesthetics of a Maharaja.
Hermès India Sari Collection
Almost a decade ago, Hermes had opened up its store in Mumbai, later capping on the opportunity of wooing its Indian customers by rolling out a new line of India-only saris. The collection exclusive to India involved four designs, with a total of just 28 pieces that took inspiration from Indian hues and themes. The saris were available only at its Mumbai outlet even though there were stores in Delhi and Pune. The designs in the line were— Coupons Indiens, Patch, Fleurs d'Indiennes, and New Springs. The saris ranged between $ 6,120 (around ₹ 300,000 at that time) and $ 8,158(around ₹400,000 at that time) , making it within reach for the rich Indians only. Hermes wasn't new in the limited-edition Sari game having launched its first one for a Millennium collection.
